How to Play Shakeup Adventures

Shakeup Adventures in one paragraph. Up to six heroes race through a dungeon that rebuilds itself every round. There is no dungeon master and no rulebook to memorise. You shake a tray of 25 dice, a brand new dungeon appears, and you plot a secret route through it to claim quests before your rivals do. A full game is five rounds and takes 25 to 45 minutes.

What you need

  • The Castle Keep dungeon shaker and dice tray

  • 25 etched dungeon dice

  • Ability Cards and Quest Cards

  • One transparent player map and one dry erase marker per player

  • The sand timer and damage die

Step 1 — Build your character

Draft Ability Cards to decide what kind of hero you are. A nimble mover who slips past monsters, or a warrior who smashes straight through walls? Abilities carry over between rounds and stack, so your hero grows through the game.

Step 2 — Shake up the dungeon

Put the dice in the Castle Keep, shake, and lift the lid. The 25 dice settle into a dungeon nobody has ever played before — corridors, monsters, curses and colour-coded treasure rooms. This is the map for this round only.

Step 3 — Reveal this round's quests

Draw three Quest Cards and place them face up. Everyone is chasing the same quests, so the fastest and boldest route wins them. Quests range from slaying a monster in a specific room to reaching the deadliest corner of the dungeon.

Step 4 — Draw your path

Lay your transparent player map over the dungeon and secretly draw your route with a dry erase marker while the sand timer runs. Every monster, hazard and locked wall on your path has to be dealt with by an ability you actually own. Get greedy and your hero does not make it out.

Step 5 — Resolve the round

When the timer runs out, everyone reveals their route at the same time. Check each path against the dungeon: abilities are spent, damage is taken on the damage die, and heroes who overreached fall. Quests are awarded to the players who legitimately reached them.

Step 6 — Score and recover

Claimed quests go in front of you and count towards victory. Fallen heroes are not out of the game — they return next round with every ability they earned still intact.

Step 7 — Shake it up, again and again

Collapse the dungeon back into the Castle Keep and shake a completely new one. Play five rounds in total. The player who claimed the most quests wins.

Solo play

With the Heroes with Class expansion the game plays solo: you take a class, chase quests against a target score, and the dungeon does its best to stop you.
